Community Service
MSKC donates Pet Masks and
Kits to Ridgeland Fire Dept
The MSKC is involved in many community activities.
The
Cluster shows in Jackson, Mississippi draw many visitors
from all over the nation to compete in conformation,
obedience
and rally.
The Jackson Convention and Visitors Bureau recognized us
for bringing visitors and commerce into Jackson for our
2008
Magnolia Christmas Classic Cluster. Additionally,
our
Responsible Dog Ownership Day and Cluster shows
provide educational opportunities for current and future
dog
owners and breeders.
We also provide seminars on various topics at some of
our meetings and throughout the year. For a list of

Some of the events in which our club is involved are:

Participating in the
AKC Canine Good Citizen program and providing
certification

Offering a scholarship for a local MSU College of
Veterinary Medicine student (see below)

Donating pet oxygen
masks for the Ridgeland Fire Department (pictured)
as well as Jackson, Canton, Flowood, Pearl & Madison
and MARL MEMA Rescue

Distributing public education information &
offering tours at
our shows
-
Presenting "Safety Around Dogs" and other children's
programs to schools and libraries

Hosting an AKC
Responsible Dog Ownership Day
-
Supporting Second
Chance Pet Partners, a program that utilizes inmates
for the training of companion and service dogs to be
placed back into the community with disabled and/or
hearing-impaired individuals.

Providing periodic school demonstrations and education
-
Certifying dogs through Therapy Dogs International
to allow dogs to visit hospitals & nursing homes
-
Providing training classes for
AKC conformation and rally
- Offering microchip clinics and other resources at
our shows
- Providing dog show exhibitors a
list of local hotels that welcome pets
- Fighting breed specific legislation and laws
presented to remove the rights of responsible dog
owners and ethical breeders
- Supporting commerce in cities
that encourage responsible dog ownership as opposed
to breed bans
