MSKC donates Pet Masks and Kits to Ridgeland Fire Dept

The MSKC is involved in many community activities.  The Cluster shows in Jackson, Mississippi draw many visitors from all over the nation to compete in conformation, obedience and rally.

The Jackson Convention and Visitors Bureau recognized us
for bringing visitors and commerce into Jackson for our 2008
Magnolia Christmas Classic Cluster.  Additionally, our Responsible Dog Ownership Day and Cluster shows provide educational opportunities for current and future dog owners and breeders.

We also provide seminars on various topics at some of our meetings and throughout the year. For a list of upcoming seminars and events, visit our "Events & Shows" page.

Some of the events in which our club is involved are:

  • Participating in the AKC Canine Good Citizen program and providing certification
  • Offering a scholarship for a local MSU College of Veterinary Medicine student (see below)
  • Donating pet oxygen masks for the Ridgeland Fire Department (pictured) as well as Jackson, Canton, Flowood, Pearl & Madison and MARL MEMA Rescue
  • Distributing public education information & offering tours at our shows
  • Presenting "Safety Around Dogs" and other children's programs to schools and libraries
  • Hosting an AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Day
  • Supporting Second Chance Pet Partners, a program that utilizes inmates for the training of companion and service dogs to be placed back into the community with disabled and/or hearing-impaired individuals.
  • Providing periodic school demonstrations and education
  • Certifying dogs through Therapy Dogs International to allow dogs to visit hospitals & nursing homes
  • Providing training classes for AKC conformation and rally
  • Offering microchip clinics and other resources at our shows
  • Providing dog show exhibitors a list of local hotels that welcome pets
  • Fighting breed specific legislation and laws presented to remove the rights of responsible dog owners and ethical breeders
  • Supporting commerce in cities that encourage responsible dog ownership as opposed to breed bans
